The 2026 NBA Finals have arrived, and they bring together two franchises chasing very different dreams. The San Antonio Spurs are back on basketball's biggest stage for the first time since 2014, led by the generational brilliance of Victor Wembanyama. The New York Knicks return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999, carrying the hopes of one of the most passionate fanbases in world sport. One franchise is seeking to launch a new dynasty. The other is trying to end more than half a century of championship heartbreak.
Game 1 starts now.
Road to the Finals
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs earned their place in the Finals the hard way. After surviving a gruelling Western Conference playoff campaign, including a dramatic seven-game battle against the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio arrives battle-tested and battle-hardened. Throughout the postseason they have relied on defensive discipline, clutch execution and the emergence of Victor Wembanyama as one of the NBA's most dominant two-way players. The Spurs know how to win when the pressure is highest. Now they have four more victories standing between them and another championship banner.
New York Knicks
The Knicks have stormed through the Eastern Conference. After dispatching both the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers, New York completed an emphatic sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers to punch their ticket to the Finals. Powered by Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson and one of the league's most balanced rosters, the Knicks have looked unstoppable throughout the playoffs.
Their reward? A shot at ending a championship drought that stretches all the way back to 1973.
Key Narratives
👽 Wembanyama's Arrival on the Biggest Stage: Every NBA generation has a defining superstar.
For many, Victor Wembanyama is already that player. Now comes the ultimate test. Can he deliver a championship before turning 23? The basketball world will be watching.
🗽 New York's 27-Year Wait Is Finally Over: For Knicks fans, this Finals appearance means everything. Generations of supporters have waited decades to see their team return to this stage.
From rebuilding seasons and near misses to years of frustration, the road back has been long.
Now, led by Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, New York stands just four wins away from one of the most celebrated championships in franchise history. Madison Square Garden is dreaming again.
⚔️ Wembanyama vs Towns: Every Finals series needs a defining matchup. This one may be decided in the paint. Victor Wembanyama brings elite defense, shot blocking and unmatched versatility. Karl-Anthony Towns counters with elite scoring ability, floor spacing and playoff experience. Both players are capable of taking over games. Both players will carry enormous responsibility. And both know that winning this battle could determine who lifts the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
🏆 Championship DNA vs Championship Hunger: San Antonio knows what winning championships looks like. The Spurs organization built one of the greatest dynasties in modern NBA history through consistency, culture and elite development. While the faces have changed, many of those standards remain. The Knicks, however, arrive with something equally dangerous.
Hunger. An entire city desperate for basketball glory. A franchise eager to rewrite its history. A team convinced that its moment has arrived.
📖 The Regular Season Means Nothing Now: Back in March, the Knicks dominated the Spurs 114-89 at Madison Square Garden. That result will be remembered. But it won't matter.
Both teams have evolved dramatically since then. San Antonio has grown through adversity. New York has built confidence through dominance. The Finals represent an entirely different challenge.
